JAMSHEDPUR – A speeding motorcycle rammed into a scooter-borne woman on Jubilee Park Road on Monday, leaving her critically injured. The bike rider fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The injured woman has been identified as Sapna, a resident of Kadma. The impact of the crash was severe enough to throw her off her scooter and onto the road.
Panic briefly gripped the stretch of road following the accident. However, several local residents rushed to help, lifting Sapna off the road and administering first aid before further assistance arrived.
The Special Rescue Team reached the spot soon after being alerted. They transported Sapna without delay to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors began treatment immediately. Her condition is reportedly being monitored closely by the medical staff.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle had been travelling at an extremely high speed before the collision. The force of the impact left Sapna with serious injuries as she fell onto the road surface.
The rider did not stop to check on her condition. Instead, he sped away from the scene without pausing.
Police arrived at the spot shortly after being informed and began their investigation. They are now examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the fleeing rider.
Officers are also questioning eyewitnesses in an effort to establish the exact circumstances of the crash. The goal, police said, is to trace and arrest the motorcyclist at the earliest.
Jubilee Park Road has seen a string of similar incidents recently, fuelling frustration among residents over rising cases of hit-and-run driving. Locals have demanded that the administration take strict action against speeding and reckless driving.
Residents have also called for stepped-up surveillance on major roads across the city. They said this would help prevent a recurrence of such accidents in the future.
