Pending Payments Trigger Unrest Among Contract Workers

JAMSHEDPUR – A union meeting in Sakchi raised concerns over unpaid dues and warned of a possible strike if issues remain unresolved.
A key meeting took place at the union office in Sakchi on April 16. It was chaired by Vice President Ambuj Kumar Thakur.
Meanwhile, discussions focused on pending demands of Tata Power workers. These demands were submitted on December 15, 2025.
However, no response has come from management yet. Workers expressed concern over the continued silence.
Moreover, the union highlighted unpaid overtime dues of nearly Rs 20 lakh. These payments relate to workers employed under Taj Techno.
In addition, final settlement dues also remain pending. This has increased dissatisfaction among workers.
On the other hand, around 100 contract workers in the ESP department remain unpaid. Their overtime and final dues are still unresolved.
Furthermore, workers accused R.K. Erectors of violating overtime norms. They claimed payments were not made at double rates for three years.
Similarly, fire department workers face comparable issues. They also reported unfair overtime compensation practices.
Meanwhile, workers alleged forced overtime without proper compensation. This has intensified anger within departments.
In contrast, no corrective action has been taken so far. Workers warned of escalation if issues persist.
Moreover, workers stated CHP, ESP, and maintenance staff may go on strike. They held management responsible for any disruption.
Additionally, a worker named Pawan Kumar remains out of employment. He had earlier submitted a memorandum on workers’ demands.
This has further increased unrest among employees. Union members demanded his immediate reinstatement.
Meanwhile, the union also decided to celebrate May Day. The event will be organized with full participation.
The developments reflect rising tensions within Jamshedpur‘s industrial workforce. Experts note such disputes often arise over delayed payments.
