Ground Collapse in Dhanbad Buries House, Several Feared Dead

Illegal Mining Suspected as Land Cracks in Sonardih Area

Key Points:

  • House collapsed after sudden ground crack in Sonardih
  • Five to six people feared buried under debris
  • Illegal coal mining blamed for weakening the land

DHANBAD – A sudden ground collapse in Dhanbad buried a house with occupants, triggering protests and hampering rescue efforts.

A major incident occurred in Dhanbad district on Monday evening. The collapse took place in Tundabari settlement under Sonardih police station.

At around 7 pm, a loud sound was heard locally. Soon after, the ground split open unexpectedly. A house standing there sank completely into the earth.

Meanwhile, five to six individuals were inside the house. They were buried along with the structure. However, official confirmation of casualties was awaited.

Following the incident, villagers gathered near the site. They expressed anger over the घटना. Several residents staged protests by blocking nearby roads.

Meanwhile, rescue and health teams reached from district headquarters. However, the site remained difficult to access. No clear route was available initially.

Moreover, the affected ground area continued to expand gradually. This raised concerns among nearby residents. Many people began leaving the area for safety.

On the other hand, BJP MLA Shatrudhan Mahato reached the location. He reviewed the situation and interacted with locals. He blamed illegal coal extraction for the collapse.

He stated the land had become hollow underneath. This weakened the surface structure significantly. He warned the crack could expand further within hours.

Meanwhile, administrative teams moved from Ranchi toward the site. However, darkness was expected to delay operations. Rescue teams were still searching for a safe entry path.

In addition, similar incidents have occurred earlier in Jharkhand’s coal belt. Illegal mining activities often create underground voids. These conditions increase the risk of sudden collapses.

Authorities continued monitoring the situation while efforts remained focused on accessing the site and assessing damage.
