Police Bust Fake Spice Trade in Golmuri

256 Packets Seized From Mango Grocery Shop

JAMSHEDPUR – Police uncovered an alleged fake spice and food material trade in Golmuri and seized 256 packets during a raid in Mango.

Acting on secret information, police conducted the operation on February 10. The raid took place around 12:40 pm.

The action was linked to case number 17/26. It was registered under Section 15(C) of the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, the shop targeted was “New Apna Shop.” It is located near Ganesh Puja Maidan in Mango.

The grocery store belongs to Balram Mahto, aged 56. He resides in Line No. 02, Hindu Basti, Golmuri.

Officers found plastic sacks filled with spices and food items. Suspicion arose during inspection of sealed packets.

However, police discovered a substance resembling doda powder. A total of 256 packets were seized.

The confiscated items included 54 packets of Sona Chana Besan. There were also 33 packets of Shiv Wholewheat Chakki Atta.

Moreover, 152 packets of PY Turmeric Powder were recovered. Eight packets of PY Red Chilli Powder were also found.

In addition, nine packets of Rishta Chakki Fresh Atta were seized. The total weight, including packaging, was about 88 kilograms.

Police also seized an iPhone 16 from the premises. It was kept inside a folding cover.

City SP S.K. Chaudhary addressed a press conference. He confirmed the accused would be sent to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the seized materials will undergo formal examination. Further investigation is underway.

Earlier, the sweet shop raids exposed food violations in the city. Similar tobacco shop raids were conducted near schools.

On the other hand, authorities continue monitoring illegal food trade in Jamshedpur. Officials said strict compliance checks will continue.
