Food Department Raids Jamshedpur Sweet Shops Ahead of Durga Puja

Raids target popular sweet shops as water testing and hygiene checks intensify.

Key Points:

– Samples of sweets seized from major shops in Jamshedpur.

– Shops instructed to conduct water testing every six months.

– Legal action threatened for adulteration under the Food Safety Act.

JAMSHEDPUR – Raids were conducted on several sweet shops in Jamshedpur as part of a special food safety drive ahead of Durga Puja.

The raids took place on Monday under the directives of the Additional Chief Medical Officer, with Food Inspector Manzar Hussain leading the operation.

Shops were instructed to ensure water testing is done every six months, a requirement often ignored by many businesses.

Various hotels and sweet shops in Jamshedpur, including Chhappan Bhog in Jugsalai, Gangaur Sweets, and Shrestham in Sakchi, were raided.

Samples of popular sweets such as kaju barfi, milk cake, laddoos, rasgullas, and Mathura peda were seized for testing.

Hussain emphasized that any detection of adulteration in the seized samples would result in strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

He added that sweet shops and food production units were also advised to maintain proper hygiene and ensure that only fresh sweets are sold during the festive season.

This intensified campaign comes in response to concerns over food safety during Durga Puja, a time when there is a surge in the sale of sweets and other festive items.

Officials are focusing on preventing the sale of adulterated or unsafe products, which could pose serious health risks to the public.
