JAMSHEDPUR – Youth INTUC, under the leadership of National General Secretary Nitesh Raj, staged a protest at the Sakchi roundabout against L&T Chairman S.N. Subramaniam’s controversial statement suggesting a 90-hour workweek for workers. Protestors burned an effigy of the chairman, chanting slogans like “L&T Hai Hai” to express their discontent.

Protest Highlights Workers’ Anguish

The protestors accused Subramaniam’s remarks of being anti-labor and unacceptable. The statement, proposing a 15-hour workday, drew sharp criticism from labor unions and activists. Nitesh Raj, addressing the gathering, declared, “Such comments undermine workers’ rights and dignity, and we won’t tolerate this disregard for labor welfare.”

Demand for Apology

Raj demanded a public apology from the L&T chairman and warned of intensified protests if the demand is not met. “The voice of workers cannot be ignored. We will escalate our agitation if necessary,” he asserted.

Growing Support for Protest

The protest gained significant attention as more unions and labor groups expressed solidarity with Youth INTUC. Activists emphasized that such statements threaten labor laws and called for strict adherence to fair working hours.

L&T Yet to Respond

While the protest continues to gather momentum, no official response from L&T has been made regarding the chairman’s statement. Labor unions have vowed to sustain their efforts until their demands are addressed.
