IMD warns of cold wave in Garhwa, Palamu, and other districts

RANCHI – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions across several districts in Jharkhand from December 12 to 14.
The warning is applicable to districts in western and northeastern Jharkhand, including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Dumka, Simdega, Ramgarh, Bokaro, and Dhanbad. These areas are likely to experience cold wave conditions during this period.
Temperatures Drop Sharply
Over the last 24 hours, the weather remained dry across Jharkhand. The highest maximum temperature of 26.2°C was recorded in Chaibasa, while Garhwa registered the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 5.4°C.
Earlier this month, temperatures had remained higher, but rainfall caused by a western disturbance triggered a sharp drop in nighttime temperatures.
IMD Advises Precautions
IMD Ranchi Centre’s Abhishek Anand urged people to take necessary precautions against the cold. “Residents, especially children and the elderly, should wear warm clothing to stay safe. Consuming warm beverages will also be beneficial,” he stated.
The weather department has warned that temperatures could continue to drop, making it essential to stay updated on weather advisories. Meanwhile, Jharkhand’s January 2023 cold wave had similarly led to record low temperatures across the region.

With the cold wave expected to intensify, residents are advised to remain cautious. Health experts also suggest avoiding prolonged exposure to cold, which could lead to health complications, especially for vulnerable groups.
