MEDININAGAR – The Palamu district administration observed World Disability Day on Tuesday with a program at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Nagar Bhavan. The event, graced by Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sulochana Meena, underscored the need for empowerment and inclusion of differently-abled individuals in society.

Inaugural Highlights

SDO Meena inaugurated the event with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and encouraged the attendees. She emphasized that individuals with disabilities are integral to society and should remain confident despite physical challenges. "The administration is committed to prioritizing the resolution of issues faced by the differently-abled," she said.

District Social Welfare Officer Neeta Chauhan elaborated on government welfare schemes, assuring active efforts to deliver benefits directly to eligible individuals. She also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at technical skill development for differently-abled persons.

Legal Awareness and Community Issues

Advocate Amitabh Chandra Singh, representing the District Legal Services Authority, provided insights into laws safeguarding the rights of differently-abled individuals. Surendra Kumar, representing the Disability Association, voiced concerns over inadequate facilities in the district. He called for residential schools and job opportunities, noting the hardships faced by the community.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of a dozen wheelchairs by SDO Meena. She reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of differently-abled citizens and ensuring their integration into mainstream society.
