PALAMU – Railway Protection Force (RPF) has successfully rescued nine children from a trafficking operation in Palamu district’s Manatu area. Acting on a tip-off, the RPF intercepted the group at Daltonganj Railway Station as they were being transported to Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
The children, all minors, were residents of Ghirsiri village in Palamu’s Manatu police jurisdiction. They were being lured with promises of ₹9,000 monthly wages to work in a carbon factory.
Coordinated Action by RPF and Local Authorities
Based on confidential information about potential child trafficking, RPF swiftly conducted a raid at the railway station. Along with the nine minors, three adults were also traveling but were later released to their families.
The rescued minors were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for further care. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old minor trafficker, also from Ghirsiri village, was arrested in connection with the case. An FIR was lodged by the Palamu Anti-Human Trafficking Unit to investigate the incident further.
Prevention Efforts Against Child Trafficking
An RPF official stated that the operation exemplifies the importance of coordinated efforts in combating trafficking. He added, “Such operations are crucial in preventing the exploitation of children.”
The minors were being taken aboard the Tata Jammu Tawi Express when the intervention occurred. Authorities are now focusing on unraveling the network behind this trafficking attempt.
