JAMSHEDPUR – Tensions escalated in Jamshedpur late Monday night as the Kadma police detained BJP leader Gichu Agrawal, prompting NDA candidate Saryu Roy, BJP district president Sudhanshu Ojha, and hundreds of party supporters to stage an overnight sit-in at the station demanding his release.

According to Roy, the arrest of Agrawal—who recently joined BJP and has been campaigning for him—was politically motivated, alleging bias in the district administration under Congress leader Banna Gupta’s influence.

“The local administration is serving the interests of Banna Gupta’s supporters,” Roy claimed, adding that several BJP leaders were targeted with false FIRs at Gupta’s direction.

He has since filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission, requesting that central forces be deployed to ensure an impartial election process, citing concerns over the impartiality of the district police and administration.

Arrest Sparks Allegations of Harassment and Misconduct

Agrawal’s wife, Ranjana Agrawal, alleged that police officers arrived at their home late at night, attempting to forcibly enter and behaving improperly with her and their daughters.

She further claimed the officers were intoxicated and used abusive language, with no female officers present during the search. “They harassed my family, broke into our home, and detained my husband without any legal reason,” she stated.

The arrest and alleged misconduct sparked immediate outrage, with Saryu Roy, Sudhanshu Ojha, and other BJP leaders rallying supporters at the police station.

After a night of protest, Agrawal was released on bond, and the crowd dispersed. However, Roy reiterated his demand for central oversight, stating that impartial elections are at risk without federal intervention.

Continued Opposition and Call for Justice

Addressing the protest, BJP district president Sudhanshu Ojha condemned what he described as “Banna Gupta’s Goonda Raj” and vowed to seek justice for party members.

“The people of Jamshedpur are witnessing this injustice, and I call on them to vote in large numbers to end this bullying,” Ojha declared.

As the elections approach, the NDA has intensified its call for security measures and central forces to ensure fair voting, with local party officials and supporters standing firm in their demand for accountability from the administration.
