Mumbai businessman Mehul Praveen Shah’s kidnapping case sees fresh developments as Ranchi police arrest two additional suspects in Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – Ranchi police, in collaboration with their Jamshedpur counterparts, have arrested two more individuals in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of Mumbai businessman Mehul Praveen Shah.
The suspects, identified as Babu Pille from Birsa Nagar and Abhishek Singh from Telco, were taken into custody following a police raid in Jamshedpur.
During the arrests, authorities recovered a firearm, indicating the seriousness of the crime.
Babu Pille, upon questioning, revealed that the mastermind, Sidharth, orchestrated the plot alongside S Pati.
The Extortion Plot Unveiled
Babu disclosed that the entire plan was crafted a month earlier, with the key players including S Pati, her husband Sidharth Jaif, and others.
S, who had been employed in Mehul Shah’s company for the last decade, began the blackmail by sharing explicit images via WhatsApp.
She lured Mehul into her trap, leading him to travel to Ranchi under the pretext of a meeting.
Kidnapping and Ransom
Upon his arrival in Ranchi, Mehul Shah was abducted by S and her accomplices and taken to Goilkera in Chaibasa.
There, they threatened to release compromising material unless Mehul paid ₹50 lakh.
Fearing for his reputation, Mehul arranged the ransom through a hawala transaction from Mumbai.
After receiving the money, the kidnappers released Mehul.
Police Action and Arrests
As soon as Mehul reported the incident to Ranchi Airport police, they launched an investigation.
Ranchi police, with assistance from Jamshedpur and Chaibasa police, carried out coordinated raids, resulting in the arrest of S, her husband, and two others.
Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta personally oversaw the operation, directing the superintendents of police from three districts to work together.
Using support from the technical cell, the police successfully tracked down the suspects in Goilkera, recovered the ransom money, and seized the vehicle used in the kidnapping.
