Jamshedpur Hosts First Walkathon for Vascular Disease Awareness

Tata Steel supports event on National Vascular Day to promote ‘Amputation Free World’

A walkathon in Jamshedpur, organized by the Vascular Society of India and Tata Steel, aims to raise awareness about vascular diseases on National Vascular Day.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Vascular Society of India, backed by Tata Steel, is set to host Jamshedpur’s inaugural walkathon to promote awareness of vascular diseases on August 4, 2024.

The event, themed ‘Amputation Free World’, is part of a nationwide initiative spanning 34 cities.

The 2.5-kilometer walkathon will commence at 6 AM from the JRD Tata Sports Complex main gate.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, will inaugurate the event.

Over 280 participants have already registered, demonstrating strong community engagement.

Dr. Sudhir Rai, General Manager of Medical Services at Tata Steel and Vascular Society of India member, emphasized the importance of early detection and timely treatment in preventing limb amputations.

"By organizing this walkathon, we hope to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle," Dr. Rai stated.

Vascular diseases, affecting blood vessels, are a significant health concern in India.

Alarmingly, 40-50% of all amputations in the country result from vascular disease complications.

Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and high blood cholesterol.

The walkathon aims to educate the public about symptoms, risk factors, and available treatments for vascular diseases.

This event marks Jamshedpur’s first participation in the National Vascular Day awareness campaign.

The public is encouraged to join the walkathon and support the cause of vascular disease awareness.
