Jamshedpur: Cyber Fraud Victim Loses ₹27,000 in Electricity Bill Scam

Mango resident duped by fake power company official; FIR filed after 2-year delay

A Jamshedpur man lost ₹27,000 to cyber fraudsters posing as electricity department officials in a sophisticated scam.

JAMSHEDPUR – Arun Kumar Singh from Mango fell victim to a cyber scam involving fake electricity bill payments, losing ₹27,000 to fraudsters.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2022, when Arun received a deceptive message about an unpaid electricity bill.

The message threatened to disconnect his power supply if the outstanding amount wasn’t paid promptly.

A phone number provided in the message connected Arun to a scammer posing as an electricity department official.

The fraudster, under the guise of resolving the issue, obtained Arun’s bank details and OTP.

Subsequently, a total of ₹27,000 was withdrawn from Arun’s account without his authorization.

Arun initially filed a written complaint at the Bistupur Cyber Police Station following the incident.

After two years of inaction, he recently lodged another complaint at the Mango Police Station.

Based on this new complaint, the police have finally registered an FIR and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The victim resides in Road Number 15 of Jawahar Nagar, which falls under the Mango Police Station jurisdiction.

Authorities are now examining the case details to track down the perpetrators of this elaborate cyber fraud scheme.
