South Eastern Railway Zone Implements Speed Enhancement Measures

Railway upgrades signal systems and closes crossings for improved safety and efficiency.

The South Eastern Railway Zone has rolled out initiatives aimed at increasing train speeds by upgrading signal systems and closing crossings.

JAMSHEDPUR – To enhance train speeds and ensure safer operations, the South Eastern Railway Zone has started implementing various measures, including improving signal systems and closing crossings.

A tender has been issued for closing crossings in Chakradharpur division, along with constructing road under-bridges and installing automatic signaling systems.

An investment of over ₹16 crore has been allocated for these projects.

The plans also include installing auxiliary transformers on the Asanboni to Tatanagar-Rajkharsawan and Rourkela routes, upgrading electronic interlocking systems, and expanding data logging capabilities.

Two crossings on the Rajkharsawan to Dangoaposi route are also set to be closed.

Efforts are underway to establish telecommunication facilities in the proposed guard-crew lobby at Dangoaposi to improve information exchange and operational efficiency.

These initiatives aim to increase train speeds by installing road under-bridges and replacing sleepers, allowing trains with LHB coaches to operate at speeds up to 110 km/h.

Plans are also being made to introduce semi high-speed trains on the railway zone’s lines, reducing travel time for passengers.

A senior railway official commented, “These projects are essential for enhancing the safety and speed of train operations within the South Eastern Railway Zone.”
