XLRI Jamshedpur Welcomes New Batch, Marking Shift in Admission Trends

Non-Engineering Students Gain Ground, Challenging Engineering Dominance

Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur welcomed a new batch of 551 students for the academic year 2024-26 in an offline inauguration ceremony held at the Tata Auditorium on the XLRI Jamshedpur campus.

JAMSHEDPUR – The event, attended by new students, parents, faculty, and staff, highlighted a significant shift in admission trends this year, with non-engineering students gaining ground in the institute’s two-year management courses.

Notably, the Human Resource Management (HRM) program saw a historic change, with 50 percent of the students coming from non-engineering backgrounds, challenging the long-standing trend of engineering dominance.

The Business Management (BM) program also reflected a diverse mix, with 55 percent of students from engineering backgrounds and 45 percent from non-engineering fields.

The new batch includes 9 students in the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and 14 in the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EXEC-FPM).

The student demographics for the PGDM programs are as follows:

– PGDM (BM): 236 students (31% female, 69% male, 55% engineering background)

The new students were introduced to the 80+ Professors of the Jamshedpur XLRI campus.

Fr. S George S.J., Director of XLRI, addressed the gathering, welcoming the students to the XLRI family and emphasizing the importance of making the most of the opportunities at the institution.

He noted that each student’s success contributes to XLRI’s success, and their actions bring glory to the institution.

Diversity and Inclusion at XLRI

An XLRI official highlighted the institution’s consistent prioritization of diversity in its classrooms, curating a varied student body in terms of gender, educational background, economic background, professional backgrounds, and regional diversity.

XLRI has historically pioneered the inclusion of women in management education in India and fosters an environment where they feel safe and empowered.

The academic inaugural event was followed by a two-hour ice-breaking event featuring various games and activities to help students interact comfortably with each other.

The new students then underwent a Special Orientation Programme designed by XLRI to update their knowledge before the commencement of regular classes.

The shift in admission trends at XLRI Jamshedpur reflects the institute’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, providing opportunities for students from varied backgrounds to pursue management education and contribute to the dynamic learning environment.
