Delegation from Surya Mandir Committee Meets Deputy Commissioner

Concerns Raised Over Construction Activities in Shankh Maidan

Committee seeks preservation of the spiritual and cultural heritage of the site.

JAMSHEDPUR – A group of representatives from the Surya Mandir Committee met with District Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal to discuss their concerns about the ongoing construction at Shankh Maidan in Sidhgora.

The committee, led by Chairman Bhupendra Singh, has submitted a memorandum asking for a halt to the construction activities, which involve a structure shaped like a conch shell and sports courts.

They emphasized the spiritual significance of Shankh Maidan and expressed their concern that the construction projects were not appropriate for such a sacred site.

The committee mentioned that Shankh Maidan holds great importance as it is a venue for various religious and social gatherings. Some of the notable events that take place there include the annual seven-day Shri Ram Katha, Panchkundiya Mahayagya, and cultural evenings during the Chhath Festival.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that these activities have the ability to draw in a large number of followers from both Jamshedpur and other areas.

The memorandum revealed that the construction recommendations were put forward by Saryu Roy, the MLA of Jamshedpur East.

The committee claimed that these recommendations seek to diminish the spiritual and aesthetic significance of the site.

Their argument was that turning the sacred ground into a playground would reduce its religious importance and disturb traditional events.

Bhupendra Singh strongly opposed MLA Saryu Roy’s recommendations, stating that the changes would modify the original form and significance of Shankh Maidan.

He made it clear that the Surya Mandir Committee is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the beauty of the Surya Dham complex.

Singh requested the Deputy Commissioner to promptly intervene and prevent the proposed developments in order to preserve the sacredness of Shankh Maidan.

During the meeting, senior members of the committee, such as Dinesh Kumar, Pawan Agarwal, Khemlal Chaudhary, Amarjit Singh Raja, Ruby Jha, Kanchan Dutta, Prem Jha, Pramod Mishra, Sushant Panda, Rakesh Singh, Boltu Sarkar, Rocky Singh, and Tajinder Singh Johnny, were in attendance.
