JAC’s Decision to Limit Seats Across Faculties Raises Financial Apprehensions for College Management

The enrollment process for the Intermediate Academic Session 2024-26 has begun at Ghatshila College, offering prospective students the opportunity to pursue courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce.

JAMSHEDPUR – As Ghatshila College opens its doors for the Intermediate Academic Session 2024-26, students eager to embark on their higher education journey can now obtain the prospectus from the enrollment counter.

The college offers a diverse range of courses spanning the faculties of Arts, Science, and Commerce, catering to the varied interests and aspirations of the student community.

The deadline for form submission has been set for May 20, allowing ample time for interested candidates to complete the necessary paperwork and submit their applications.

The college management has announced that the merit list will be released on May 30, followed by the commencement of the admission process for selected students.

However, amidst the excitement of the new academic session, concerns have surfaced regarding a significant reduction in the number of seats allocated by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC).

In previous years, Ghatshila College was allotted a substantial number of seats, with 1152 in Arts, 640 in Science, and 640 in Commerce.

This year, however, JAC has implemented a drastic reduction, limiting the total seats to just 384 across all faculties for all affiliated colleges in the state.

Dr. RK Chaudhary, the Principal of Ghatshila College, has expressed grave apprehension over the financial implications of this decision.

In a letter addressed to JAC, Dr. Chaudhary highlighted the absence of government grants for conducting intermediate classes in affiliated colleges, emphasizing that the salaries of teachers and staff are entirely dependent on the fees collected from student enrollment.

The seat reduction is projected to result in a staggering budgetary loss of approximately Rs 10 lakh for the college.

Despite Dr. Chaudhary’s appeal to JAC, requesting permission to enroll students beyond the prescribed limit, the council has remained steadfast in its stance, denying any increase in seats.

This decision has posed significant financial challenges for the college, making it difficult to ensure the full payment of salaries to teachers and employees, which in turn may have an adverse impact on the quality of education provided.

Dr. Chaudhary has voiced his deep concern over the impending financial strain, emphasizing the urgent need for a solution to mitigate the impact on the college’s operations and maintain the high standards of education that Ghatshila College is known for.

As the enrollment process continues, the college management remains committed to navigating these challenges and ensuring the best possible educational experience for its students, despite the constraints imposed by the reduced seat allocation.
