Jamshedpur Prepares for Elections: Weapons Surrendered and Candidate Backgrounds Disclosed

SSP and DEO Outline Safety Measures and Transparency Requirements Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

As Jamshedpur gears up for the upcoming elections, significant steps are being taken to ensure a safe and transparent electoral process.

JAMSHEDPUR – Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishore Kaushal, announced during a press briefing that a considerable number of arms, totaling 1,178, have been voluntarily surrendered by residents in compliance with election regulations aimed at maintaining peace and order.

SSP Kaushal highlighted the enforcement of the Criminal Conspiracy Act (CCA) on several individuals, with ongoing assessments for further impositions. In addition, a substantial sum of Rs 68,08,466 has been seized across various regions within the district as part of efforts to curb unlawful financial transactions during the election period.

The breakdown of the seized funds includes notable amounts from Baharagora, Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur West, and other areas, reflecting the widespread scope of these interventions.

Simultaneously, Ananya Mittal, the District Election Officer (DEO), emphasized the importance of transparency in the electoral process. Candidates contesting in the Lok Sabha elections are now required to disclose any criminal records publicly.

This disclosure must be detailed and accompanied by an affidavit, ensuring that voters have clear insights into the backgrounds of those vying for electoral positions.

Political parties are also mandated to publish these criminal records on their official websites and further disseminate this information through multiple media channels, including newspapers and TV, to ensure that the electorate is well-informed.

These combined measures by local authorities are designed to foster a safe and informed voting environment, reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process in Jamshedpur.
