JNAC Crackdown Triggers Traders’ Protest in Jamshedpur

Traders flay JNAC in response to a forceful anti-encroachment drive on Bistupur’s Diagonal Road

Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) efforts to remove roadside encroachments led to a violent confrontation in Jamshedpur, with local businessmen accusing officials of harsh measures and police misbehavior.

JAMSHEDPUR – The incident unfolded when the JNAC, accompanied by police, aimed to clear illegal structures around Sonthalia Building, sparking significant dissent among the traders.

In response to the escalating tensions, police utilized batons to disperse the gathering, causing injuries and leading to several arrests among the businessmen.

The enforcement action has drawn criticism from local trade bodies and prompted a call for a formal investigation. A meeting at the Bistupur police station has been convened by the affected businessmen to discuss the fallout and coordinate their response.

Traders’ Union Speaks Out

President Vijay Anand Moonka of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry condemned the excessive force used during the operation.

"The administration’s approach could have been more empathetic, respecting the livelihoods at stake," Moonka stated, highlighting the need for a more considered strategy in handling such sensitive matters.

Community Response and Future Actions

Mukesh Mittal, a prominent local businessman, expressed his outrage over the treatment of traders.

"This harsh action is unacceptable," Mittal remarked.

He detailed plans for the business community to wear black badges in protest and did not rule out the possibility of a strike should the grievances remain unaddressed.
