Sita Soren, 3-time Jama MLA, joins BJP in Delhi

Shibu Soren’s elder daughter-in-law resigns from JMM, aims to uplift tribals and boost BJP’s strength

NEW DELHI – Sita Soren, the elder daughter-in-law of the Soren family and a three-time MLA from the Jama assembly constituency in Dumka, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi.

Soren, who is the wife of Late Durga Soren and daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren, resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) before taking membership in the BJP.

Soren’s political journey began in 2009 when she first won the assembly elections from Jama. She went on to secure victories in the 2014 and 2019 elections as well.

Her decision to join the BJP is being seen as a significant boost to the party’s strength in Jharkhand, particularly in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

BJP leaders welcome Sita Soren

Vinod Tawde, a senior BJP leader, welcomed Sita Soren into the party, stating, "Another leader of Jharkhand, sister Sita Soren, has now joined BJP. If Sita joins BJP, the strength of the party will definitely increase, and its effect will also be visible in the Lok Sabha elections 2024." Tawde emphasized that the BJP is becoming more powerful in Jharkhand and that Soren will use her full strength for the upliftment of the tribals.

Laxmikant Vajpayee, the Jharkhand BJP in-charge, praised Soren for her fight against corruption while in the JMM and for raising her voice against it, even in Delhi. "They are synonymous with struggle," he added.

Sita Soren’s vision for Jharkhand’s development

Addressing the media after joining the BJP, Sita Soren expressed her admiration for the development work being carried out in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She mentioned that she had struggled a lot in Jharkhand during her 14-year tenure with the JMM.

Soren also paid tribute to her father-in-law Shibu Soren and her late husband Durga Soren, acknowledging their role in the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state. She revealed that she had entered politics and joined the JMM to fulfill her husband’s dream but felt that Jharkhand had not yet reached its full potential in terms of development. Soren stated that her decision to join the BJP was driven by her desire to take Jharkhand forward on the path of progress.
