Jamshedpur’s Cleanliness Ranking Declines, MLA Roy Raises Concerns

Saryu Roy Urges Integrated Development Plan for Jamshedpur’s Improvement

Jamshedpur’s cleanliness ranking drop to 43rd in 2023, from 12th in 2021 and 18th in 2022, has been flagged as a concern by MLA Saryu Roy.

JAMSHEDPUR – MLA Saryu Roy, representing Jamshedpur East Assembly Constituency, expressed alarm over the city’s declining position in the cleanliness survey.

From a notable 12th in 2021 to 43rd in 2023, Roy highlighted this issue during a press conference, stressing the need for a thorough review.

He called for an integrated plan focusing on development, cleanliness, and public facilities in Jamshedpur, a matter he had previously raised at the District Level Planning Selection Committee meeting on January 9, 2024.

Roy announced that 17 major schemes, worth Rs 28 crore 16 lakh from the 15th Finance Commission funds, are set to be implemented in his constituency.

Additionally, 191 road transport and 334 civic amenities schemes are under consideration, with current funding of Rs 18 crore 68 lakh.

Roy is pushing for government approval of the complete estimated cost for these schemes.

His efforts have already led to the approval of road construction schemes worth Rs 18 crore in the area.

Plans for riverbank development from Bihari Ghat to District School Ghat, spanning about 2,000 feet and costing around Rs 2.5 crore, have been approved.

Further, schemes worth Rs 32.53 crore for cleaning the drains discharging into the river have received approval.

Roy advocates for a drain-based plan for Jamshedpur’s development, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive drainage map to manage urban and industrial runoff effectively.

He also reiterated the need for an integrated approach to development, incorporating Mango, Kapali, Adityapur, Jugsalai, and Baghbeda, and the judicious use of funds from both rural and urban development.
