Tata Steel’s Innovative Road Construction Technology Impresses Delegation

Tata Steel’s Slag-Based Road Construction Showcased to National Delegation

Tata Steel exhibits sustainable road construction using steel slag aggregates to an inter-state delegation, setting new benchmarks in infrastructure development.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has recently demonstrated its innovative approach in sustainable infrastructure by showcasing roads constructed using steel slag in East Singhbhum to an inter-state delegation.

This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and efficient use of by-products.

The delegation, including members from the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), government engineers, and officials from Jharkhand State Rural Road Development Authority (JSRRDA), visited the Kamalbera PMGSY road project.

They observed the application of Tata Aggreto and Tata Nirman, Tata Steel’s processed steel slag aggregates, in rural road construction.

The visit also included a tour of the first road developed using these materials in 2017, the Raotara to Ghoradhna PMGSY road.

Officials appreciated the state-of-the-art quality assurance laboratory for Tata Aggreto, highlighting Tata Steel’s role as the first company in India to provide quality test certificates for manufactured aggregates.

Over 1.5 lakh tonnes of these slag-based aggregates have been utilized in 21 roads by JSRRDA in the East Singhbhum district.

The workshop, a joint initiative by Tata Steel and JSRRDA, resonated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE introduced at COP26, focusing on eco-friendly lifestyles.

More than 40 delegates from across India gathered to discuss green technologies in rural road construction.

Tata Steel’s commitment to the Circular Economy is evident in its efforts to transform steel slag into sustainable aggregates.

The company’s state-of-the-art accelerated weathering facility processes LD slag through steam ageing.

Tata Aggreto, India’s first branded LD slag product, has significantly contributed to conserving natural aggregates and reducing environmental impacts.

The company’s Industrial By-Products Management Division (IBMD) exemplifies its dedication to efficient by-product management and achieving the "Zero Waste" goal.
