Samvaad 2023: Bridging Tribal Art with Urban Spaces through Tata-Kala Ghoda MoU

Tata Steel Foundation’s MoU with Kala Ghoda Association aims to elevate tribal arts at the prestigious Kala Ghoda Art Festival, marking a new era of cultural integration.

JAMSHEDPUR – On the fourth day of Samvaad 2023, Tata Steel Foundation announced a significant partnership with Kala Ghoda Association, fostering a new realm for tribal art and culture.

This collaboration, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding, paves the way for tribal artists to participate in the esteemed Kala Ghoda Art Festival in Mumbai.

Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, emphasized the MoU’s potential in promoting tribal music, art, and culture in urban landscapes, following the successful Samvaad X collaboration.

The partnership promises a stage for ‘Rhythms of the Earth’, a tribal ensemble, and opportunities for tribal artisans to showcase and commercialize their art at the festival.

Brinda Miller, Festival Director of Kala Ghoda Association, expressed her enthusiasm for integrating Samvaad’s tribal art and music into the festival’s rich tapestry.

Samvaad 2023 has already attracted over 25,000 visitors, immersing them in a diverse range of tribal cultural expressions at Gopal Maidan in Jamshedpur.

The event showcased vibrant performances from various tribes, including the Tripuris from Tripura, Dongar Koli from Maharashtra, and groups from Nagaland and Telangana, each sharing their unique cultural narratives through dance and music.

A highlight was the Mamita dance by the Tripuri tribe, a joyful expression of a good harvest, alongside the energetic Koli dance by the Dongar Koli tribe.

The Kolam and Gond tribes of Telangana celebrated marital rituals through dance, while a Naga troupe narrated ancient tales through their folkloric performance.

The event’s tribal cuisine stall, Aatithya, experienced a surge in popularity, offering a taste of diverse tribal dishes to the enthusiastic crowd.
