108 Ambulance staff in Saraikela-Kharsawan go on strike for overdue pay, affecting emergency services in the district with a fleet of 14 ambulances.
SERAIKELA – The striking workers have sought the immediate distribution of any outstanding paychecks, and fast payment of their salaries.
They emphasized how they have been living close to famine due to the last five months of unpaid payments.
According to the workers, even during the COVID era, their payments have been delayed despite their tremendous efforts and risks to their lives to deliver services to patients.
The email containing the memorandum of demand and call for a strike included all 52 of the ambulance drivers and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who signed the demand, namely: Gulshan Gilua, Fulchand Majhi, Ajit Das, Narendra Gope, Rakesh Mahato, Ratan Mahato, Bharat Mahato, Prahlad Mahato, and Udit Kumar Singhdev.
The Civil Surgeon received the document from a delegation of the striking workers from Saraikela-Kharsawan, declaring an indefinite strike in part to seek back pay that has been overdue for the last five months.
The district’s 108 services, consisting of a fleet of 14 ambulances, are expected to be impacted, disrupting the provision of emergency services in the area.
