Foundation Stone for Street Lights at Jugsalai Railway Overbridge to be Laid After Months of Darkness

108 days after its inauguration, the Jugsalai Railway Overbridge will have street lights installed, Minister Banna Gupta to Lay Foundation of Project.

JAMSHEDPUR – The long-awaited installation of street lights on the Jugsalai Railway Overbridge (ROB), a joint project of the Railways and the Jharkhand Government, is set to begin.

The foundation stone will be laid on Saturday, May 20, at 6 pm, providing relief to commuters who have been navigating the bridge in darkness since its inauguration 108 days ago.

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, initially inaugurated the ROB on January 31st. The old Jugsalai railway gate was permanently closed at the same time, directing all traffic to the new overbridge.

Banna Gupta, the State Health Minister and Congress MLA from Jamshedpur West, will lay the foundation stone for the installation of the street lights.

JMM MLA from Jugsalai, Mangal Kalindi, will also be present at the ceremony.

The Jugsalai Municipal Council, responsible for the installation, will implement the ₹48.64 lakh project on the ₹44.04 crore bridge.

A total of 110 street lights will be installed on the 830-meter-long ROB and the 170-meter approach road. Each light will be a 90-watt capacity LED.

The ROB was completed on December 31, 2022, and inaugurated a month later by Chief Minister Soren.

The Railways constructed the overbridge, while the State Road Construction Department’s Jamshedpur Division built the access road.

The installation project was initially offered to Tata Steel USIL (formerly known as JUSCO), which initially agreed but later declined.

The task was then given to the Jugsalai Municipal Council.

The lack of street lights has been a significant safety issue for pedestrians and vehicles alike. Around three lakh people travel through the Jugsalai ROB daily.

108 days after its inauguration, the Jugsalai Railway Overbridge will have street lights installed, reducing risks for its daily commuters.
