India records decline in daily Covid-19 cases, nationwide mock drill to assess hospital preparedness on April 10-11

Desk: India has reported 5,357 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which marks a significant decline from the figure reported on the previous day. On Saturday, the number of new cases had crossed 6,000 for the second consecutive day, but the number came down on Sunday.

In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases across the country, a nationwide mock drill will be conducted on April 10 and 11 to take stock of hospital preparedness. Both public and private facilities are expected to participate in the drill, and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit AIIMS Jhajjar on April 10 to oversee the exercise.

In a review meeting held on April 7, Mr. Mandaviya had urged State Health Ministers to visit hospitals and oversee the mock drills. He had also advised them to review the preparedness with district administrations and health officials on April 8 and 9.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has administered a total of 220.66 crore vaccine doses so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive. Of these, 95.21 crore are second doses, while 22.87 crore are precaution doses. In the last 24 hours, 659 doses were administered across the country.

India’s active caseload currently stands at 32,814, which accounts for just 0.07% of the total cases reported so far.

The country’s recovery rate stands at 98.74%, and there were 3,726 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 4,41,92,837.

The daily positivity rate in the country is currently at 3.39%, while the weekly positivity rate is at 3.54%.

The total number of tests conducted in the country so far is 92.27 crore, of which 1,57,894 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The mock drill being conducted by the government is a step towards ensuring that hospitals are prepared to handle the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country. The government has urged all healthcare facilities to participate in the exercise and be prepared for any eventualities.
