CM Hemant Soren performs groundbreaking of TCIL expansion in Jamshedpur

Tinplate Company of India Ltd is all set for expansion from 4,15,000 TPA to 7,15,000 TPA by 2026 at Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the expansion project of Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL) on Monday. TCIL is a subsidiary of Tata Steel and it plans to expand capacity from 4,15,000 TPA to 7,15,000 TPA by 2026 at Jamshedpur.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including state government officials, TCIL senior management, and Tata Group executives.

Among those present at the occasion were Champai Soren, who serves as the State Transport Minister; Banna Gupta, the State Health Minister; Saryu Rai, the MLA of Jamshedpur (East); Sanjib Sardar, the MLA of Potka; Ramdas Soren, the MLA of Ghatshila; Mangal Kalindi, the MLA of Jugsalai; Samir Kumar Mohanty, the MLA of Baharagora; Sabita Mahto, the MLA of Ichagarh; T V Narendran, who is the CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel; Chanakya Chaudhary, the Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel; R N Murthy, who serves as the Managing Director of TCIL, along with other senior officials of the state government, the East Singhbhum district administration, and Tata group companies.

R N Murthy, Managing Director of TCIL, welcomed all the attendees and stated that the expansion project is a significant milestone in the company’s growth and commitment to the state.

He further added that the company is committed to partnering with the Jharkhand government and local communities to promote economic and social development in the region.

Established in 1920, TCIL began its manufacturing journey with Hot Dipped Tinplate in 1922 and expanded to include Electrolytic Tinplate in 1979 and Cold Rolling Mill operations in 1996. In 2012,

TCIL’s capacity was enhanced to 3,80,000 Tonnes Per Annum (TPA) for producing Tinplate Material & Tin Free Steel, along with lacquered and printed sheets.

TCIL has completed 100 years in 2020 and is now embarking on its next journey towards sustainability and growth.

The expansion project involves an investment of around Rs 2000 crores and aims to add additional capacity of 3,00,000 TPA.

This will lead to a total capacity of 7,15,000 TPA by the year 2026.

The upcoming facilities will have state-of-the-art technology and higher levels of automation to cater to domestic and export markets, minimize man-machine interface, enhance safety aspects, and be designed to meet the EU environmental norms.

The expansion project will significantly boost the local economy and provide employment opportunities in the region.

The project is expected to contribute to the growth of the state and bring in more investment opportunities.
