CFE holds maiden e-Heritage Walk of Steel City

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Centre for Excellence (CFE) organised a Heritage Walk on the virtual platforms for various English Medium schools of Steel City.

For the first time due to Covid-19 pandemic, e-heritage walk was organised on November 16. Over 1400 students and teachers from 10 English Medium schools including A D L Sunshine School, D B M S English School, DAV Public School (Bistupur), Gulmohar School, JH Tarapore School (Dhatkidih), Loyola School, Little Flower School, Kerala Samajam Model School, Kerala Public School, NML and Kadma) participated in the event.

CFE has been organising Heritage Walks since 2016 for schools students, senior citizens of Jamshedpur, senior officials from Tata Steel and social organisations. Heritage Walk, is a platform through which the historical and cultural significance of Jamshedpur, a century old city is shown to the people. It also showcases the city’s heritage, culture and tradition.

The Walk covers the historical locations of Jamshedpur which include Armoury Ground, P N Bose Memorial, United Club, Director’s Bungalow, Bharucha Mansion, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Kali Bari, World War II Shelter Trench, Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital, Golmuri Clock Tower, ISWP, TCIL, Tata Motors, etc.

Eminent personalities of Jamshedpur Mr Ronald D’Costa and Ms Lalita Sareen briefed the students on the significance and history of these heritage sites. This was also supported with an archive and current photograph of the concerned locations of Jamshedpur. Video clips on Sir Dorabji Tata, Lady Meherbai Tata and the rededicated Sir Dorabji Tata park was also shown to the participants.

Renu Arora, Teacher at DBMS English School said “We really enjoyed the tour. I always wanted to take the children on the Heritage Walk but due to some reason or the other we could not participate. It happened to be a wonderful and informative tour

“It was an enriching and informative virtual Heritage Walk. The organisers helped us to visit some unique historical places of Jamshedpur city and widened our knowledge of the family tree of Tatas and their legacy” says Amarjeet Kaur, Teacher of Little Flower School.
