Corona pandemic improving in Jamshedpur, festive season crucial : Dr. Rajan Chaudhry

Recovery rate in TMH goes up to 87.32%, positivity rate less than 5%

Jamshedpur: The coronavirus pandemic situation is definitely showing an improvement in Jamshedpur and Jharkhand. The oncoming festivals and winter season would prove crucial in deciding the direction of the pandemic. However, the pandemic is certainly on the decline in the city.

Confirming this, Dr. Rajan Chaudhry, Advisor, Medical Services, TMH today advised the citizens of Jamshedpur to continue complying with social distancing measures and using masks. He said that the conduct of citizens during the next few weeks would prove crucial, because there is a risk of second wave too.

Addressing a weekly teleconference with media persons, Dr. Rajan Chaudhry said that numbers relating to coronavirus are certainly going down. The pandemic is under control in both Jharkhand as well as Jamshedpur and the numbers are coming down slowly.

He said that there are two parameters on which the status of the coronavirus pandemic can be reasonably judged – recovery rate and positivity rate. He said that on both counts, TMH has been doing quite well. He said that the recovery rate for TMH has gone up to 87.32 pc this week.

He said that the positivity rate for RT PCR tests is 4.88% and for antigen tests it is 2%. He said that the positivity rate below 5% is considered good for RT PCR.

Emphasising that the numbers for TMH on both counts have been improving, he said that the number of patients being discharged is also improving. TMH has seen for the first time less than 100 patients of coronavirus being treated. Till date, the hospital has treated 3817 patients.

He added that this week 73 patients with coronavirus infection were admitted, while the number for the last week was 62. Slight variations do occur due to other factors too, he added.

He said that this week only one person has died of coronavirus in TMH, while the number of deaths during previous week was 5. He said that most of the deaths are taking place because of co-morbidity.

Dr. Chaudhry said that the Post Covid Care Centre opened on October 7 in TMH has been doing well and has already treated 210 patients. It has also been designated as a Post Covid Care & Counselling Centre by the state government. It is one of the 6 such centres in the state designated by the state government as post-covid centre.

He said that 50 pc of the patients being treated at Post Covid Centre at TMH are suffering from fatigue, while 10% of them have lung related problems.

He said that post covid centres would also help in studying the progress being made by the coronavirus patients as it is being done elsewhere in the world.
