The Dalma Buru Sendra Samity convened to finalize preparations for the upcoming Sendra festival, set for May 19.
The meeting, led by Dalma Raja, emphasized preserving tribal traditions and ensuring safety during the celebration.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Dalma Buru Sendra Samity gathered at Tiu Bhawan, Karandih, Jamshedpur, to plan for the Sendra festival.
The meeting was led by Dalma Raja Rakesh Hembram, who stressed the importance of upholding tribal customs.
Guidelines were set for the Sendra warriors, with a pre-festival ritual scheduled for May 18, when villagers will worship traditional weapons at home.
During the festival, each Sendra warrior will carry a sapling to plant in the forest, symbolizing environmental conservation.
Participants will refrain from brandishing weapons en route, promoting a peaceful approach.
The committee has sought cooperation from law enforcement to ensure safety and avoid disruptions.
The Sendra tradition involves men gathering herbs and medicinal plants from the forest for their families.
Before leaving, they perform a puja at home in traditional attire, seeking blessings.
Armed with traditional tools, they collect wild produce to the accompaniment of musical instruments like Dhamsa and Charchari.
Tribal communities from Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal unite during Sendra to worship their deity Sinhabonga.
Dalma Raja urged police to ensure the safety of the warriors and protect their traditional practices.
