Jamshedpur at Corona peak, numbers may recede after 10 days or so: GM, TMH

  • Medica Hospital will be operational soon, staffing problems causing delay
  • Home quarantine patients should keep checking oxygen level, reach hospital if oxygen level below 94
  • If cough, cold or fever, self-isolate from family, seek medical advice

Jamshedpur: Medica Hospital in Bistupur would soon be operational and start treating patients again. Tata Main Hospital has already taken over the hospital and would soon be starting operations here.

During a weekly teleconference organised by Tata Steel Corporate Communications, the GM of Tata Main Hospital Dr. Rajan Choudhary Saturday told media persons that as Medica Hospital in Bistupur has shut down, Tata Steel has now taken over the hospital. However, it is still not very clear when the hospital would be operational again.

He said: “As around 300 staff members of Tata Main Hospital too have tested positive for Corona, arranging doctors and manpower for the new hospital is posing challenges. However, we are making efforts and we are hopeful that we would achieve positive results soon.”

The Chief of Corporate Communications Kulween Suri and Head Runa Rajiv Kumar were also present during the teleconference.

Dr. Choudhary said that for now Corona pandemic is at its peak in Jamshedpur. Last week 243 patients were admitted in TMH, while this week the number reached 272.

He expressed hope that the numbers would start decreasing after around 10 days.

He said that it is expected that a large number of citizens would develop antibodies and immunity to the virus soon.

He said that that the recovery rate in Jamshedpur was 72 per cent last week, but has now reached 75 per cent, which is a positive indication.

Talking about plasma therapy, he said that till date 9 patients have been treated with plasma therapy in TMH. Out of these 2 have recovered and have been discharged. Four more have turned corona negative, while two patients have died.

He said that herd immunity is likely to bring the numbers down slowly. He said that very few cases of repeat infections have been found in Europe and other countries. There was a time when 5000 people were dying in New York every day, but the situation has since improved.

Dr. Choudhary also advised citizens who are under home quarantine to keep checking their oxygen level with the help of an oximeter.

He said that all home-quarantined persons should keep a thermometer and oximeter with them. If the level of oxygen goes below 94, they should reach hospital immediately.

He said that many patients are reaching TMH with breathing difficulties and they are dying within 24 hours due to late treatment.

He said that the number of patients arriving with breathing problems has increased recently. Therefore, anyone who are treating themselves at home should take the level of oxygen seriously.

He also said that if anyone has cough, cold or fever, then he or she should self-isolate from family and seek medical advice.
