Passengers vandalize booking counter at Giridih station following a lengthy delay due to the Muffsil police’s handling of a track-side fatality.

GIRIDIH – Passenger frustration reached a boiling point at Giridih railway station after the Giridih Madhupur passenger train was held for over two and a half hours due to a fatal incident on the track and subsequent police mismanagement.

The delay was triggered by the discovery of a body, identified as 48-year-old Warsia Ramdev Thakur, on the Giridih-Madhupur railway block at Phuljori halt.

While the exact time of the incident remains unclear, the first train had arrived from Madhupur to Giridih at 4 am, and the held train was scheduled to depart at 4:50 pm.

Station staff attempted to keep passengers informed of the situation, but tempers flared when demands for ticket refunds were denied. Passengers resorted to vandalism, resulting in a damaged booking counter and shattered glass.

Giridih station’s Government Railway Police (GRP) were on site, ready to remove the body to alleviate the delay and passenger distress.

However, Muffsil police station officials insisted that the body could only be moved upon their arrival.

After two and a half hours, the police arrived and the body was removed, allowing the train to finally depart around 7:30 am.

This unfortunate delay disrupted the travel plans of many passengers with morning departures from Madhupur to various states, potentially affecting individuals with pre-booked reservations to their destinations.
