Goilkera Murder Sparks Fear in Badaila Village

CHAIBASA – A priest was murdered in his sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, allegedly by the very man he had gone to cure through a ritual, in a shocking incident that has left Badaila village in the Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum in shock.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Gora Angaria, while the accused is 24-year-old Ponde Ram Angaria, a resident of the same village. Police said the accused had been behaving abnormally over the past several days, prompting his family to arrange rituals and prayers to cure him.
On Tuesday night, priest Gora Angaria, along with village headman Dakuwa Mukhi Ram Angaria and several other villagers, reached the accused’s house to conduct the ritual. Most villagers left once the ritual concluded, but the priest and the headman stayed back, and Ponde Ram slept in the same room as the two men.
At around 4:30 am, Ponde Ram allegedly attacked the sleeping priest with a sharp knife, inflicting a severe wound to his neck that killed him on the spot. The headman had little time to react before the accused fled the scene.
Goilkera police reached the spot after being alerted and took the body into custody, sending it for a post-mortem examination. Police are now conducting raids at possible hideouts in search of the accused. The Chaibasa region has been left in a state of fear and shock following the incident.
