Officials Told to Speed Up Probes and Verify Criminal Records

JAMSHEDPUR – Old and serious pending cases were placed at the top of the agenda as East Singhbhum’s senior superintendent of police reviewed unresolved investigations across the district on Saturday.
Dr. Ehtesham Waqarib, the SSP, chaired the review meeting at the police office auditorium. All deputy superintendents of police and thana in-charges of the district attended the session.
The meeting assessed the progress of pending cases across various police station jurisdictions. Necessary directions were then issued for their prompt disposal.
Cases that were old or of a grave nature were flagged on a priority basis. Meanwhile, the SSP instructed officers to accelerate investigations.
He also asked them to ensure timebound resolution of cases based on available evidence. Jamshedpur police officials were told that any laxity would not be tolerated.
Several important points were discussed to strengthen crime control and law and order in the district. The SSP directed a faster pace of action under the Crime Control Act against gang members and habitual offenders.
He further ordered that dossiers of history-sheeters be kept updated. Criminal verification of suspicious individuals was also made mandatory.
In addition, a special campaign was ordered for the arrest of wanted and absconding criminals. Serious cases are to be reviewed regularly to speed up investigations.
“No kind of negligence in the disposal of pending cases will be tolerated,” the SSP said. He added that all police officers must ensure effective and quality action in line with prescribed targets.
The district’s law and order machinery was also discussed at length. Officers spoke of the need for coordinated efforts toward better crime control in East Singhbhum.
The SSP’s directions come amid an ongoing push to tighten policing across Jamshedpur and its surrounding police station areas. Similar reviews and inspections, including surprise checks at local police stations, have been part of the district administration’s recent efforts.
Officers were also reminded that verification drives and updated criminal records are central to the ongoing departmental restructuring aimed at improving accountability.
The administration has in the past run targeted special drives against arms offenses and other law and order concerns in the district.
