JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur police continued their ongoing Operation Muskan drive to recover lost and stolen mobile phones with a distribution event on Friday. The programme was held at Ravindra Bhawan Auditorium in Sakchi.
The Senior Superintendent of Police of East Singhbhum presided over the event. Officers handed 271 recovered phones back to their owners during the tenth phase of the drive.
Police had already returned 2,936 phones across the first nine phases of Operation Muskan. The latest batch takes the overall tally to 3,205 phones returned to genuine owners since the campaign began.
During the event, officials briefed attendees on the central government’s Central Equipment Identity Register portal. They explained how the CEIR system helps block a lost or stolen phone using its IMEI number.
Officers said the portal also assists in the recovery process once a phone has been blocked. Police urged residents to remain alert about mobile phone security in general.
The Senior Superintendent of Police directed all station house officers in the district to make effective use of the CEIR portal. He also instructed them to take necessary action for recovering lost and stolen phones.
Many recipients expressed relief and happiness upon getting their phones back. Officials said the drive has strengthened public confidence in the department’s use of technology for such recoveries.
A local resident said, “The process felt straightforward, and getting the phone back this quickly was a relief.” Meanwhile, police reiterated that formally reporting a lost phone remains an important first step.
Senior officials present at the event included the Superintendent of Police (Town), Superintendent of Police (Rural), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Town) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic). Various station house officers of East Singhbhum district also attended.
In addition, several other officials from the district police force were present at the auditorium during the programme. Operation Muskan has been running in phases since its launch to address the recovery of lost mobile devices.
