Jamshedpur West MLA Challenges Accusers to Produce Evidence, Vows Legal Action
Key Points:
- Roy files written complaint at Bistupur police station over social media smear campaign
- MLA denies illegal parking extortion and penthouse purchase allegations on Facebook Live
- Roy blames political rivals, says accusers are tools in opponents’ hands
JAMSHEDPUR – Saryu Roy, the independent MLA from Jamshedpur West and a former state minister, broke his silence on Monday over a series of allegations circulating against him on social media, going live on Facebook to issue a sharp rebuttal and announcing that a written complaint had already been filed at Bistupur police station.
A journalist had recently released videos on social media levelling serious charges against Roy, his nephew and his associates. The allegations included extortion from illegal parking operations within the JNAC limits and the purchase of a penthouse in an apartment in violation of rules. Roy returned from Muzaffarpur and went live on Facebook shortly after, addressing those charges directly.
During the live session, Roy challenged his accusers in strong terms. He said he had ignored these claims for about a month, but that the repeated circulation of falsehoods had made it necessary to place the truth before the public. “If you have even a single piece of evidence regarding illegal parking extortion or the penthouse, place it before the people,” he said. “Stop making baseless allegations without facts or proof.”
Roy trained his guns on political rivals without naming them. He said the entire episode was orchestrated by opponents who still nursed the wounds of electoral defeat. He alleged that these rivals had certain individuals on a leash and were using them as loudspeakers to amplify their frustration and spite. He added that those calling themselves journalists but acting as instruments of others were bringing disrepute to the profession.
On the complaint filed at Bistupur police station, Roy said he had demanded that police summon the accusers and ask them to substantiate their claims with evidence. “Everything I do will be strictly within the framework of the Constitution, within the bounds of law and in accordance with the rules,” he said. “Legal and constitutional steps are being taken against such people.”
Towards the end of the Facebook Live session, Roy also issued a challenge to expose all other instances of illegal parking in the city. He posed a direct question to the people of Jamshedpur, asking what should be done against those who spread lies and deception in society.
Roy’s tone throughout the session was pointed and combative, indicating his resolve to pursue the matter through legal channels to their conclusion.
