JAMSHEDPUR – A series of thefts on express trains have left passengers alarmed. On the Tambaram-Dibrugarh Weekly Express, Jamshedpur resident Manju Sharma reported her bag stolen near Barsoi station in West Bengal. The bag contained gold and silver jewelry worth ₹1.5 lakh, along with a mobile phone and other valuables.
Sharma lodged a complaint with the Tatanagar railway police upon disembarking. Previously, passengers Anil Sharma from Bihar and Debashish Nandi from Kolkata had also reported thefts on trains at the same station.
FIRs Transferred to Relevant Authorities
The Tatanagar railway police have forwarded the FIRs to GRP stations in Bihar’s Bihiya and West Bengal’s Purulia for further investigation. These cases include the January 12 theft from Priyanka Pandey, a Bagbera resident, who lost ₹5,000 in cash and items worth ₹20,000 on the Katihar-Tatanagar Express near Purulia.
Another case involves Adityapur resident Anil Kumar Sharma, who filed a complaint about his stolen bag near Bihiya station on January 13 while traveling on the Buxar-Tatanagar Express.

The recent surge in thefts on these routes has raised concerns about passenger safety. Authorities are urging travelers to remain vigilant and secure their belongings while on board. Investigations are ongoing, with GRP teams tracking leads from the registered complaints.
