Key Points:

• Prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS in effect for election period

• Political material on public property banned, violators face penalties

• Officials oversee removal of posters, banners from public spaces

JAMSHEDPUR – Local authorities have implemented stringent measures to ensure fair elections, including the removal of political advertisements from public spaces.

The district is currently under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). As a result, Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Dhalbhum and Ghatsila have issued prohibitory orders.

These orders, enforced under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), aim to maintain peace during the electoral process. They will remain in effect until the conclusion of elections.

Moreover, the orders cover all assembly constituencies within their jurisdiction.

The guidelines strictly prohibit the display of political material on public or government property. This ban includes slogans, posters, pamphlets, flags, banners, hoardings, and arches.

Furthermore, violators will face consequences under the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1987. This law outlines penalties for unauthorized public display of political content.

During a recent review, ADM Sachan and SDM Majumdar observed the ongoing removal of political advertisements. They noted that many locations had already been cleared of such material.

In addition, the officials instructed municipal bodies to ensure full compliance with the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directives. They emphasized the need to complete the removal process within the specified timeframe.

"We are committed to creating a level playing field for all candidates," stated a local election official. "The removal of political advertisements is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process."

On the other hand, the district administration’s actions reflect their dedication to upholding a fair election environment. This commitment aligns with the mandates of the MCC.

Meanwhile, municipal bodies have been tasked with promptly completing the removal process. They must also remain vigilant throughout the election period to prevent future violations.

In contrast to previous elections, the authorities are taking a more proactive approach to enforce the MCC. This increased vigilance aims to ensure a more transparent and equitable electoral process.
