JAMSHEDPUR – A violent clash between two groups over an old dispute turned bloody late Saturday night at Raharogda Chowk in the Telco police station area. Three youths were stabbed during the confrontation and admitted to hospitals for treatment.
The injured were identified as Pritam Singh, Jai Kishan and Prakash Thakur. Singh and Kishan are undergoing treatment at Tata Motors Hospital, while Thakur was admitted to MGM Hospital following the attack.
However, the area witnessed brief chaos in the aftermath of the incident. Police reached both hospitals to gather details about the injured and the sequence of events leading up to the clash.
According to available information, a dispute had been simmering between the two sides for quite some time. An argument had also broken out between them on Saturday morning over the same issue.
Later, both groups gathered near Raharogda Chowk, apparently intending to resolve the matter through talks. Meanwhile, the conversation turned tense once again, and the situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation between the two sides.
Eyewitnesses said knives were used during the clash, leaving three young men injured. Preliminary information suggests the dispute may be linked to a matter involving a young woman, though police have not officially confirmed this angle so far.
On receiving information about the incident, Telco police station personnel rushed to the spot and ensured the injured were taken to hospital without delay. Besides inspecting the site, officers have begun questioning people from both groups and their associates.
Police are working to establish the actual cause of the dispute and determine which side initiated the knife attack. Telco police said statements from both parties are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Further legal action would follow only after a written complaint is received and the investigation is completed, police added. In addition, officers said additional force had been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
Telco and its adjoining localities have witnessed several similar clashes rooted in personal disputes in the past, some of which have escalated into knife attacks or shootings between rival groups. Jamshedpur’s industrial belt areas have periodically reported such violent altercations, including cases involving retaliatory attacks and fatal shootings stemming from personal rivalries.
