Family Finds Locks Broken, Door Cut on Return From Market

JAMSHEDPUR – A house in Ambedkar Nagar locality of Gadra was burgled on Saturday, with thieves making away with jewelry and cash worth nearly ₹8 lakh. The theft occurred between 3 pm and 5 pm while the house was locked and the family was away.
Resident Ram Raja Sharma said he and his family had gone to the market during the period the theft took place. He said neither he nor any other family member was present at the house at the time.
According to Sharma, the thieves cut through the main door of the house to gain entry. The lock on the almirah containing jewelry was also broken during the burglary.
Sharma estimated the stolen jewelry to be worth around ₹7 lakh to ₹8 lakh. Cash amounting to roughly ₹70,000 was also taken from the house, he said.
The main gate’s lock was found broken as well, according to Sharma. He said the lock itself was missing from the site, apparently taken away by the thieves.
Sharma said the family left for the market around 3 pm and returned around 5 pm to discover the theft. He said almost nothing of value remained in the almirah after the burglary.
Residents in the area said incidents of theft had been rising in the locality in recent days. According to local accounts, three separate theft incidents were reported within a two-hour window on a previous night in the same area.
Sharma alleged that the administration had not paid adequate attention to the rising cases of theft in the Parsudih-linked locality. He said the road near the house remains active with movement round the clock, raising questions over how the theft went unnoticed.
