AISF blames waterlogging near multipurpose building for the accident

CHAIBASA – A student was injured after coming into contact with live current at a college campus affiliated with Kolhan University on Saturday.
The student was rushed to hospital immediately after the incident and is currently undergoing treatment. All India Students Federation, Singhbhum unit, has since written to the university registrar demanding urgent action over the administration’s security arrangements.
In its letter to the registrar, AISF said the incident occurred around 10 am on Saturday when a student collapsed after touching a live wire on the campus. The organisation claimed similar incidents had occurred before at the same site, without adequate safety improvements being made since.
However, the student body identified long-standing waterlogging near the campus’s multipurpose building as the main cause. AISF said water accumulates frequently in front of the building, creating a risk of electrical contact whenever it comes into contact with wiring in the area.
Moreover, the group said the hazard threatens the safety of students, teachers and others who visit the college. AISF has asked the university administration to provide Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance to the injured student’s family.
The organisation said the family has faced both financial and emotional distress following the accident. It argued the university should extend help to the affected family on humanitarian grounds.
Besides seeking compensation, AISF demanded an immediate inspection of the waterlogging and electrical systems on campus, along with a permanent fix. The group also called for improved drainage arrangements and a review of electrical safety standards.
AISF further urged the administration to strengthen campus security to prevent similar incidents in future. The organisation asked for a written assurance from the university with a fixed timeline for resolving the issues.
In addition, AISF warned that it would be compelled to launch a democratic agitation if its demands are not met with prompt and concrete action. It said responsibility for any resulting protest would rest with the university administration.
The student body has asked the administration to intervene immediately, given the seriousness of the matter, to ensure treatment for the injured student, support for his family, and repairs to the campus’s safety infrastructure.
