JAMSHEDPUR – Students from twenty city schools tested their general knowledge at the annual quiz that Tata Steel holds each year in memory of JRD Tata.
The JRD Tata Annual Inter-School Quiz Contest 2026 was held on Wednesday. It marked the 122nd birth anniversary of the industrialist.
JRD Tata was a former chairman of the Tata Group. He was also a pioneering aviator and a Bharat Ratna recipient.
Moreover, the contest is not a new addition to the calendar. It has been organised without a break since 1994.
More than 180 students took part this year. They came from twenty schools across Jamshedpur.
The quiz was conducted in two stages. A preliminary round was followed by the final.
Besides screening the entries, the first stage decided the finalists. Six teams made the cut on the basis of their scores.
The finalists then faced a series of demanding rounds. Their knowledge, analytical skill and teamwork were tested there.
D. B. Shailaja attended the event as the chief guest. She addressed the gathering after the rounds.
In addition, she spoke of the continuing relevance of JRD Tata’s values. Curiosity and a spirit of excellence were stressed in her remarks.
“Such contests give the young a stage to widen their horizons,” she said. Learning must continue through life, she added.
She said the confidence built at such events carries forward. It helps students excel in a fast-changing world, she said.
Meanwhile, a creative session was added to the programme. An origami workshop was conducted alongside the quiz.
It was led by Tanvi Jetha Shah, an entrepreneur and artist from the city. She is the founder of Art Apart.
The firm is a creative learning and event company. It designs interactive art workshops for children, families, schools and organisations.
