Workers Light Lamps in 28 Mandals of Four Assembly Segments on Guru Purnima

JAMSHEDPUR – Earthen lamps were lit at temples across the city on Guru Purnima as the Bharatiya Janata Party observed a harmony festival in memory of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas.
The observance was named Samrasta Deepotsav. It was held on Wednesday by the BJP’s Jamshedpur metropolitan unit.
Moreover, the event forms part of a wider party programme. The Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan marks the 650th birth anniversary year of the saint.
Party workers gathered at prominent temples in every mandal. All 28 mandals across the four assembly segments took part.
Local devotees joined the workers at the shrines. Together they lit lamps and bowed in reverence to the saint.
Besides the prayers, a message was conveyed at each venue. It spoke of social harmony, goodwill and national unity.
Purnima Sahu, the Jamshedpur East legislator, attended one such gathering. She lit a lamp at the Hari Mandir in Ravidas Colony.
The temple lies in Zone Number 8 of Birsanagar. She also offered worship there.
Meanwhile, the metropolitan district president took part separately. Sanjeev Sinha lit a lamp at a temple in the Sonari area.
At the venues, party leaders felicitated temple priests and gurus. Saints present at the shrines were also honoured and their blessings sought.
Sahu said the saint had left an invaluable message for society. She said it rested on equality, self-respect, service and humanity.
He rose above caste and notions of high and low, she said. His work bound society together in unity, she added.
In addition, she said his ideals still guide the country. They inspire the making of a just and egalitarian India, she said.
“Every citizen owes it to society to carry his thinking into daily life,” she said. Social goodwill and brotherhood would grow stronger that way, she added.
Sinha described Guru Ravidas as a saint of all humanity. He said the saint was also a social reformer.
His thinking gave dignity to the last person in society, Sinha said. It restored confidence among the most neglected, he added.
On the other hand, he linked the campaign to the party leadership. He said the BJP under Narendra Modi was committed to spreading the message.
That message covers equality, social justice and harmony, he said. The Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan was an effort to realise it.
The campaign will further strengthen goodwill in society, he said. It will also reinforce social justice and national unity, he added.
District office-bearers took part alongside mandal presidents. Yuvraj Singh, Ranjit Singh, Kumar Abhishek and Bapan Banerjee were among them.
Vikas Sharma, Ritesh Jha, Pappu Upadhyay and Maruti Nandan Pandey also contributed. Upendra Giri, Prashant Poddar, Vinod Rai and Ravindra Singh Sisodia joined the observance.
Abhinav Sinha, Rakesh Chaubey, Anand Kumar and Amit Mishra took part as well. Shyamal Mahakud, Nidhu Das, Sanat Kumar C and Hannu Jain were present.
Sumit Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Suraj Sah and Jugnu Verma also joined. Sanatan Das, Krishna Pad Singh and Madhusudan Mahato completed the list of organisers.
The party has held several such street and temple programmes in the city before. These include a Tiranga Yatra, a torch rally and a patriotic programme, while temple observances such as Guru Purnima events have drawn wide participation.
