BOKARO – A 63-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by his own son in Bokaro district, police said.

The killing took place late at night in Karipani village under the Tilaiya panchayat, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Jageshwar Vihar police station in Gomia.

Police identified the deceased as Jailal Karmali, 63. His 30-year-old son, Arjun Karmali, has been arrested in connection with the killing.

According to the officer in charge of the police station, Arjun Karmali had assaulted his wife and driven her out of the house before the incident. His father objected to this treatment of his daughter-in-law.

The objection triggered an argument between father and son. The dispute escalated when Arjun allegedly attacked his father with a “tangi,” a type of axe.

Jailal Karmali died on the spot from the injuries, police said. Officers have taken the body into custody and are preparing to send it for a post-mortem examination.

Police have detained Arjun Karmali and are questioning him about the circumstances leading to the attack. Investigators are also examining the sequence of events inside the household on the night of the killing.

The case has caused a stir in the village and surrounding areas of Gomia.
