Old Grudge Led to Olidih Ambush; Accused Held from Dilapidated Vasundhara Quarter

Key Points:

  • SIT arrests four accused in Vikram Singh shooting in Olidih OP area
  • Two illegal weapons, live cartridges and two motorcycles recovered
  • Three-year-old personal enmity cited as motive by prime accused Vikas Mahato

JAMSHEDPUR — Police have cracked a sensational shooting case from the Olidih OP area, arresting four accused along with illegal firearms used in the attack on Vikram Singh alias Vicky.

The incident had taken place near Uma Tiffin on Dimna Basti Road. Vicky was travelling in an Alto car when he was shot and seriously injured. The attackers were identified as Krishna Singh alias Lalla, Rakhal Kumbhkar and Vikas Mahato, along with one other accused.

A case was registered at Olidih OP as Case No. 75/26. It was filed under various sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. The FIR was lodged based on a written complaint by the victim.

Given the gravity of the offence, the Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum, ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team. The SIT was constituted under the Rural Superintendent of Police. It operated under the guidance of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Patamda.

On April 1, 2026, the SIT conducted a raid at a dilapidated quarter inside the Swarnrekha Project building near Vasundhara State. All four accused were apprehended from the premises. Moreover, two illegal firearms, live cartridges and two motorcycles used in the crime were also seized.

During interrogation, prime accused Vikas Mahato disclosed the motive. He stated that Vikram Singh had allegedly assaulted his brother around three years ago. On the other hand, Singh had also reportedly threatened to kill him at the time. In order to avenge that old enmity, Mahato conspired with his associates and carried out the shooting.

The police crackdown on armed criminals in Jamshedpur has intensified in recent months. The swift arrest of all four accused within a short time after the incident reflects the SIT’s efficiency. The Jharkhand DGP had earlier also reviewed law and order in the city following a series of crime incidents.
