JAMSHEDPUR — A speeding truck lost control at Haldipokhar in Potka and rammed into a car and a scooter, leaving six people injured, after which angry residents blocked the Tata-Odisha main highway demanding strict action against the driver.
Among the six injured were two women, a child, and two scooter riders. Local residents swiftly rushed all the injured to the Sadar Hospital for treatment. Their condition is being monitored and treatment is currently underway.
The collision triggered sharp anger among locals. They immediately blocked the Tata-Odisha highway, bringing traffic on the major route to a standstill. Protesters raised slogans against the administration and demanded that the errant driver face stringent legal action.
In addition, locals demanded adequate compensation for all the injured victims. Police arrived at the spot shortly after being informed of the incident. Officers have been making efforts to pacify the agitated crowd and clear the blockade. However, the atmosphere in the area remained tense at the time of reporting.
The road accident has once again raised concerns over reckless and overspeeding heavy vehicles on highways passing through the Potka area. The highway collision is the latest in a series of road accidents involving heavy vehicles in the Jamshedpur region.
