JAMSHEDPUR – XLRI Jamshedpur has initiated the Jharkhand Industrial Policy Lab in collaboration with government and industry partners, aiming to reshape industrial policy and governance.
The lab has been established jointly with JIDCO, JIADA, and Invest India. During the launch, 15 live projects were introduced at the XLRI campus through an orientation and briefing session. The session opened with introductory remarks by Dr. Kalyan Bhaskar, Associate Professor of Strategic Management, followed by a welcome speech from Dean of Academics, Professor Dr. Sanjay Patro.
Meanwhile, JIDCO and JIADA Managing Director Varun Ranjan formally unveiled the projects. He presented a vision for transformative changes in the state’s industrial policies. In addition, Invest India and consulting partner EY shared insights on the strategic direction and policy relevance of the projects.
A key highlight was an interactive session where students engaged directly with policymakers and experts. On the other hand, this made the initiative more impactful by allowing future managers to understand governance at close quarters.
A total of 30 student teams will work on the 15 projects. Some teams will participate through elective courses in public policy, while others will collaborate under the Committee for Public Policy Research. Weekly and phased mentoring will ensure that outcomes are effective and practical.
This is the first such initiative in the country where business school students will directly contribute to government policy-making and implementation. According to Varun Ranjan, “Working with young students to shape the industrial future is an exciting step.”
Professor Kalyan Bhaskar added, “This is a valuable opportunity for students to contribute to state policies and national development.”
During the event, students, faculty, and government officials also discussed industrial growth opportunities in Jharkhand.
