SC Puts Citizens’ Safety Above Stray Dog Rights

Supreme Court’s interim order prioritises human lives, curbing stray dog menace with nationwide regulations.

editorial

The Supreme Court has finally tilted the scales where they must be—towards protecting human lives over unchecked animal rights.
The decision to sterilise, vaccinate, and release strays back into their areas may continue, but the clear exclusion of rabid and aggressive dogs is a critical safeguard.
By banning street feeding, the Court has struck at the root of unregulated dog gatherings that have endangered children, senior citizens, and daily commuters alike.
Dedicated feeding zones, under municipal supervision, will bring order where chaos reigned.
India has witnessed countless tragedies—maulings of toddlers, vulnerable women attacked, and elderly bitten—because misplaced compassion placed dogs over humans.
This verdict corrects that imbalance, ensuring that human life, dignity, and safety remain paramount.
Expanding the order to all States and UTs makes this not a Delhi-centric decision but a national policy of prioritising citizens first.
Town Post strongly supports this humane yet firm stance—because no ethical argument can outweigh the value of human lives.
