Jharkhand Captures Global Attention With Its Tribal Art, Dance, and Cuisine at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Showcasing Rich Heritage
Jharkhand plays a pivotal role at the Mahakumbh 2024, highlighting its cultural essence with tribal art, local dances, and traditional cuisine while gaining global recognition.

In December 2024 Jharkhand’s governor Mr. Santosh Gangwar had appealed to the people of Jharkhand for those who keep faith in Hindu culture if it might be viable to attend the Mahakumbh.
While the Mahakumbh accentuates the entire digital world, the grand event needed preparation on every front. As 45 crore footfalls are expected in this conglomeration Jharkhand has a crucial part to play in the anticipated success of the divine festival.
It is garnering at a constant rate the worldwide media attention from the days before its official beginning.
Jharkhand’s medical practitioner Dr. Sachin Kumar Patil was chosen as the Health Expert for the MahaKumbh before it commenced. Certainly a matter of pride for Jharkhand.
In Prayagraj a cultural village called Shilp Sangam or Kalagram, a National Gandhi Crafts Market has been specially designed to give the nationwide artisans a platform to exhibit their talent. The artistic experience of the Kalagram begins with a 35-ft wide and 54-ft high entrance facade visually replicating the 12 Jyotirlingas and Lord Shiva’s famous fable of drinking poison. Among the Jyotirlingas Jharkhand’s Baba Dham makes its godly presence felt with the large idol of Lord Shiva.
The satvik(vegetarian) cookeries of Jharkhand have been put on display alongside the other states. These cuisines include the ethnical delectables like Peetha, Dhuska, Madhua Roti etc. They are said to be receiving a hugely positive response from the visitors.
Sohrai Khovar painting, a tribal mural art that was given GI tag in 2024 is on display for sale in the stall dedicated to Jharkhand’s art and craft along with other traditional art forms like the non-ferrous metal casting art called Dokra.
From Jharkhand, seven dance troupes have been chosen to perform among the 15,000 cultural artists at multiple amphitheatres with huge audience capacity ranging in thousands. The various local dance forms to be performed are tribal dance form Paika, folk dance of Chotanagpur Plateau: Nagpuri, half-classical tribal and folk dance Chhau, the Santhali dance performed by the Santhal tribe of Jharkhand are believed to be the largest crowd-pullers in the Jharkhand kiosk.
While Jharkhand still remains largely an unexplored land both by national and international tourists, this kind of opportunity may conform to new avenues for development of Jharkhand while staying on the loop of secure cultural and traditional heritage in the modern times.
