Police Destroy 21.5 Acres of Illegal Opium Cultivation in Saraikela

SP Appeals to Farmers to Switch to Traditional Crops, Warns of Legal Action

SERAIKELA – Saraikela-Kharsawan police intensified their campaign against illegal opium cultivation, destroying crops across multiple locations on Tuesday.

The operation marks a significant milestone in the district’s anti-narcotics efforts. This year’s enforcement actions have set a new record in the region.

Widespread Operations

Police teams conducted raids in three different police station areas. They destroyed illegal opium cultivation in Hesakocha village’s Dhatkidih area.

Meanwhile, another operation targeted Torodih village under Reading panchayat. The team destroyed eight acres of illegal opium crops there.

Enforcement Details

SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat led the comprehensive anti-narcotics campaign. The operation also covered Salukdih village under Ichgarh police station.

“This campaign will continue until farmers become fully aware,” a senior police official stated. Local administrative officers supported the operations.

Government Support

The administration is promoting alternative farming options. Various welfare schemes are available for farmers willing to switch crops.

SP Lunayat warned against collaborating with opium mafias. He emphasized strict legal action against landowners involved in illegal cultivation.
